Fluororubber (FKM, Viton™)
Fluororubber is a well-known high-performance rubber, especially with excellent resistance to high temperature, ozone, weather, oxidation, mineral oil, fuel oil, hydraulic oil, aromatics and many organic solvents and chemicals. Products made of Viton™ series fluoroelastomers are now available, such as general-purpose grades (A-TYPE, fluorine content 66%), medium-fluorine grades (B-TYPE, fluorine content 67~68.5%), high-fluorine grades (F-TYPE, GF-TYPE, fluorine content 70%), low-temperature resistant grades (GLT-TYPE, GFLT-TYPE) and Viton™ ETP with more chemical resistance. We also provide Aflas products with better acid and alkali resistance.
Curing system
Bisphenol bridging and peroxide bridging
The standard FKM compound is bisphenol-bridged. Peroxide-bridged FKM compounds have better resistance to acid solutions than bisphenol-bridged ones.
In some lubricants with added organic amides or amines, Viton™ with a peroxide bridged system may be a better choice than a bisphenol bridged system.
Temperature range
Static seal: -26℃ ~ +232℃, up to 275℃ for a short time. Although it can still be used at 275℃ for a short time, its service life will be shortened when the temperature exceeds 250℃
Dynamic seal: -15℃ ~ +200℃
GLT type: -45℃ ~ +225℃
VPL type: -55℃~+225℃
Hardness range
Shaw A50 degrees to 90 degrees
Color
Black, brown, green, white, brownish red, yellow, blue, or customer-specified colors
Application
FKM is commonly used in the automotive, chemical, aerospace and many industries due to its excellent resistance to high temperatures, oils, solvents, flames, chemicals and weathering.
Viton GLT has a wider operating temperature range, from -40°C to +250°C, and has excellent resistance to very aggressive HTS-type mineral oils, so it is often used in the aerospace field.
Viton ETP is commonly used in the chemical industry.
In some fuel oils with added methanol, Viton™ F and B types are more resistant than A type, especially F type. If lower temperatures are required, GFLT and GBL type compounds can be used.
AFLAS® (TFE/propylene polymer) has better alkali and steam resistance than other types of fluoroelastomers. It can also be used in amines, amides and certain bases.
FKM materials can be submitted for Underwriters Laboratories (UL) approval for use in applications specified in UL157.
